Event Description:
Late last year, the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Standards Council, the body that manages various payment card industry standards, released version 1.2 of its 12-step PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Having gone into effect December 31, 2008, the newest version of PCI DSS strives to clarify the rules and ease the burden of compliance for affected companies. And while there are no major changes to the 12 overall requirements noted in the newest version of PCI DSS, there certainly have been some modifications to the suggested ways organizations meet them. For example, by June 2010, merchants and service providers no longer will be able to implement Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) for wireless networks.
Touted as the result of two years of feedback from "industry stakeholders" by the PCI Council, tweaks and revisions to version 1.2 of PCI DSS are supposed to help organizations more effectively and efficiently comply with the standard, in addition to strengthening security mechanisms that safeguard payment transaction systems. And while many merchants and other companies have done well to come into line with these rules, others are still grappling with the requirements, the actions they should take to meet them, and the tools they can enlist to support their efforts.
To help allay some of the fears and confusion that can arise when trying to meet PCI DSS rules, we've asked a number of industry specialists to join us for our PCI eConference to provide some pointers on how to comply with PCI standards and what security practices and solutions can ease the process of doing so. Experts from both the PCI Security Standards Council, as well as leading practitioners from companies affected by PCI will discuss the council's newest version of the PCI DSS, how changes to it affect you, and actions you can take to address requirements. Further, with the PCI Council's other announcement late last year of its new quality assurance program for Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs) and Approved Scanning Vendors (ASVs), our industry speakers also will discuss if and how this new program is assisting merchants in providing consistent assessment and validation services.
