House of Representatives leaders in the US have once again tabled a bill that aims to tackle the spyware menace.
The House has made two previous attempts to regulate the growth of
malicious spyware, in October 2004 and May 2005, but the Senate has not
been keen to ratify them.
Supporters say the bill will protect consumers by prohibiting unfair or
deceptive behaviour such as keylogging, phishing and the display of
adverts that cannot be closed. Opponents claim that the regulations are
too inflexible to combat online crime, and that they will merely hamper
legitimate software development.
